Uproar as Wumi Oladeji kicks against LAUTECH satellite campus

There was a rowdy session yesterday when the Honorable representing Ogbomoso North, Wumi Oladeji vehemently rejected bill seeking the change of ownership and multicampus status of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH.

Mouthpiece NGR reports that the Ladoke Akintola Univeristy of Technology, Ogbomoso Bill, 2020, on Thursday passed through second reading at the floor of the House.

This was sequel to a letter forwarded to the House by Governor Seyi Makinde on the need for the state legislature to enact a new bill that will make provision for the sole ownership of the state university.

The bill which was read for the first time at the floor of the House generated several reactions from the honourable members.

Mouthpiece NGR gathered that some members threw weight behind the bill seeking for the conversion of the school to multicampus and conventional institution.

But Wumi Oladeji while speaking at the floor rejected the bill seeking the change of status to multi campus.

Oladeji said there is no zone in Oyo State that does not have tertiary institutions and that it will be a great disservice to the people of Ogbomosho if the campus is degraded by splitting it into many campuses.

At the time she was speaking, there was uproar as the honourables from Oke-Ogun were in louder voices saying “No No No” to her claims.

Hon. Wumi said she would stand her ground as nobody can intimidate her because of her position to reject the bill.

“The only thing that drives the economy of Ogbomosho is LAUTECH and if you are saying you want to move some faculties out to other zones, it will be tantamount to launching of economic war against my people and I reject in totality. Those who are clamouring that it should be sited in Oke-Ogun are doing so out of selfishness because they cannot say they don’t have presence of tertiary institution in their zone”.

The honourable members from Oke-Ogun were interjecting honourable Wumi Oladeji while she was talking by shouting ‘no tertiary presence in Oke-Ogun 1 and we must have it’.

Hon. Dele Adeola, member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency in his own reaction said the House should treat the ownership structure first before thinking of converting it into conventional University as the debate on conventional status can be done later.

He however rose in support of multicampus as he opined that it will turn the school to building more enterpreneurs that will catapult the State to prosperity.
