Covid-19: Time to explore traditional medicine and be responsible with our actions— LAUTECH Professor

A lecturer in the Department of Transport, Faculty of Management, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Professor Remi Aworemi ATURAKA, has urged the citizens of Osun State and more importantly the people of Ejigbo Local Government Area to be responsible with their actions and behaviours amidst the further spread of the novel Coronavirus. 

Aworemi disclosed this while addressing Mouthpiece NGR correspondent and other journalists in his home town, Ejigbo. 

The LAUTECH don admonished the people to imbibe responsible acts and behaviours in order to arrest the spread of the disease by washing their hands regularly with soap under running water, using hand sanitizers, maintaining hygienic environment, disinfecting surfaces at intervals, using of face masks and keeping social distance. 

He equally enjoined the people to follow all other preventive guidelines that may be given by the State Government and relevant health authorities from time to time.

The Ola-born Professor also called on the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, the State Government of Osun and the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria to explore local traditional (alternative) medicine in finding cure for the disease. 

He said “while efforts are going on all around the world to get vaccine that can cure the disease, Nigeria should not be left behind as there are positive reports from recovered patients on the efficacy of some herb mixtures in curing the Coronavirus disease that’s troubling the whole world.”

Aworemi urged the Federal Government to stimulate interest in finding cure to the disease locally by constituting a high-powered team of experts both from the conventional medical line and the traditional medical practitioners to find local cure for the disease and provide them with all necessary resources. 

He also volunteered to share with such team his over three decades knowledge and experience in traditional herbs.

Advising the citizens of the State not to entertain visitors from other States, Aworemi said it will support Government’s efforts in stemming the tide of further transmission of the disease.

“The Muslim faithful should utilize this Holy month of Ramadan to offer prayers to Almighty Allah to put an end to all calamities in the world including this COVID-19 pandemic”, he said.
