Confusion Over Abduction of OPC Chieftain Bayo Fabiyi in Kwara
Confusion has trailed the abduction of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, chieftain Comrade Bayo Fabiyi and two others in Oko-Irese, Irepodun LGA, Kwara State.
Sources said Fabiyi, a driver, and an associate were ambushed while reportedly travelling to deliver ransom for a previously kidnapped victim. The team was conveying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice when armed men attacked them in the area.
The ransom delivery was linked to efforts to free a victim abducted earlier in the same community. A source said the victim had allegedly been killed by the kidnappers before the team arrived, a fact unknown to those on the mission.
The abductors reportedly lured the team into a forested area along the Kwara-Kogi border route before seizing them at gunpoint.
Sources added that Fabiyi had consulted before the trip and received a spiritual warning against it, but ignored the advice. The incident was also not immediately reported to security agencies.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi said Monday the command had not been formally informed of any kidnapping involving an OPC member at the time of inquiry.
