Tinubu Not ‘Prefect’ to Governors— Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, says Nigerians must hold their governors accountable instead of expecting Tinubu to micromanage states.

Bwala made the remarks on X against the backdrop of federal allocations to state governments.

“The President is not a prefect to the governors. That is why I talk about federalism,” he wrote. “They have State Houses of Assembly. Whatever the President provides goes through ministers and the National Assembly, which exercises oversight. Your House of Assembly should also exercise oversight over state appropriations. You are to call them to account.”

Citing local government funds, Bwala said ₦600 million is allocated monthly, and ₦2.26 billion came in between January and March 2026.

“That money would have revived primary healthcare, built primary schools, funded construction projects, improved law and order, and subsidised healthcare for the people,” he said.

He warned: “If we do not hold our governors at the federated level accountable, even if the President sends $30 billion here, we will still be having the same conversation.”
