Kogi Govt Says Security Operatives Intercept Arms Cache in Kabba
The Kogi State Government says security operatives have intercepted a cache of arms and ammunition allegedly meant for criminal groups planning attacks in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said Monday the operation was carried out by local security operatives, Hybrid Forces under the Office of the National Security Adviser, DSS, and the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, based on credible intelligence.
Authorities said intelligence identified a Golf 2 vehicle transporting the weapons. After weeks of surveillance and collaboration with Sokoto State Government, three suspects were arrested in Sokoto, while efforts continue to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The operation yielded two AK-47 rifles, several magazines, 67 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two pistols, 12 rounds of pistol ammunition, military uniforms, and the impounded vehicle in Kabba, Kabba-Bunu LGA.
Fanwo said intelligence indicated the weapons were meant to replenish criminal groups weakened by recent security operations, including the killing of bandit leader Kachalla Battijo after a failed attempt to abduct students of Government Secondary School, Iluke-Bunu, on June 10, 2026.
He commended security agencies, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, President Bola Tinubu, the Sokoto State Government, and other stakeholders for their support.
The government said surveillance has been intensified across the state and urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies.
