Gov. Seyi Makinde Fully Committed to Release of Abductees – Ogbomoso Council Chairmen’s

The Chairmen of the five Local Government Areas in Ogbomoso Zone have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security and ensuring the safe return of the recently abducted students and teachers, assuring residents that concerted efforts are ongoing and that positive outcomes are expected soon.

This assurance was given during a strategic security meeting held at Kinnira, Ogbomoso North Local Government Secretariat. The meeting brought together the Chairmen of Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Surulere, Ogo-Oluwa, and Orire Local Governments, alongside representatives of security agencies operating across the zone.

The gathering focused on reviewing the security situation within the five local government areas, identifying vulnerable routes and communities, and formulating coordinated measures to address security challenges and prevent criminal activities.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Hon. George Gbadegesin Ogunlade, drew the attention of security agencies to the Akowonjo route and other identified flashpoints that require increased surveillance and prompt intervention. He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among government authorities, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property.

The Chairmen’s collectively reiterated that Governor Seyi Makinde remains unwavering in his commitment to combating insecurity and securing the safe release of all abducted persons in the zone. They noted that the Governor has continued to prioritize security and is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure that those in captivity are reunited with their families.

They also appealed to Muslim and Christian clerics, as well as the entire Ogbomoso community, not to relent in their prayers and support, emphasizing that faith, unity, and cooperation remain critical during this challenging period.

Addressing reports concerning Ayanyan Market, the Chairmen’s clarified that the market has not been officially declared closed by the authorities. However, intelligence reports and concerns raised by stakeholders suggest that the area has allegedly been used as a hideout by suspected criminal elements, including some Fulani herders. Consequently, security assessments and consultations are ongoing to determine the most appropriate measures to enhance public safety and maintain order within the area.

The Council Chairmen’s assured residents that any decision taken regarding the market or other security-related matters would be guided solely by the need to protect lives and property. They urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to strengthen security across Ogbomoso Zone and an expression of confidence that, through sustained security operations, community support, and prayers, lasting peace will be restored and the abducted students and teachers will safely return home.
