JUST IN: Kidnappers Demand More After N11m Ransom, Hold Over 30 Children for 32 Days
MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that residents of Eda Oniyo in Ekiti State have appealed to the government and security agencies to intervene after more than 30 people abducted by suspected bandits spent 32 days in captivity.
Community members said they raised and paid a ransom of N11 million, along with bags of rice and other items demanded by the kidnappers, to secure the victims’ release. Despite the payment, the abductors have refused to free those being held.
One resident, whose three children are among the victims, said the kidnappers continue to make additional demands. She said family members are asked to provide N20,000 in recharge cards whenever they call to check on the victims’ welfare.
The victims were abducted during a prayer session at a church in the community. Gunmen killed a pastor invited from Osun State as a guest minister during the attack.
“The situation is heartbreaking. Families are in agony. Our loved ones remain in captivity despite meeting the kidnappers’ initial demands,” the mother said.
Residents are urging the federal and state governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently intervene and secure the safe release of the victims.
As of press time, the victims had spent 32 days in captivity. Security agencies have yet to issue a statement on the incident.
