Two Dead as Car Plunges into Ibadan River, Fire Service Recovers Bodies
MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that the Oyo State Fire Services Agency has recovered the bodies of two passengers after a car plunged into the Ariyo River in Ibadan.
The victims were pulled from the river in Ona Ara Local Government Area on Friday, May 29, following a rescue operation.
Officials said the vehicle, a Toyota Avensis, lost control before veering off the road and plunging into the river along the Amuloko area.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, May 30, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Maroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call and deployed a rescue team to the scene.
“On arrival, it was confirmed that the vehicle had swerved off the road and was submerged in the river. The rescue team immediately commenced operations and successfully recovered two casualties from the vehicle,” Akinwande said.
He added that the bodies were handed over to officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Ogbere Divisional Police Headquarters, for further action.
Police at the scene were led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan of Ogbere Police Station, he said.
