Member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Oriire State Constituency, Hon. Ogundele Johnson Akintola, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies for their response to recent bandit attacks in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Akintola expressed sorrow over the killing of a government school teacher abducted by suspected kidnappers, and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the state government.

He described the incident as painful and heartbreaking, saying it was a reminder of the security challenges facing parts of the country.

He prayed for strength for the affected families.

The lawmaker praised the swift response of the Oyo State Government under Governor Makinde, noting that the police, army, Amotekun, DSS, local hunters, and civil defense have intensified efforts to rescue those still in captivity.

He expressed confidence that ongoing operations would yield results.

Akintola also commended the coordination between security operatives and state authorities, saying recent developments showed the government’s determination to combat insecurity and protect residents.

He specifically acknowledged the governor’s role in addressing the issue of insecurity in Oriire, including the arrest of seven suspected bandits at Budo Alfa in Ward 5 following the January attack at Oloka.

The arrests were made in collaboration with the Nigeria Police.

According to him, solar streetlight electrification is ongoing in Oloka, with poles being mounted.

He stated that an army base for Oloka is also in the works, pending approval, and urged the governor to expedite the process and strengthen the overall security architecture in the area.

Akintola however thanked Governor Makinde for compensating the families of the five forest guards killed in the Oloka attack with ₦5 million each, adding that the gesture would help cushion the loss.

He further called for increased efforts to establish an army base in Oriire to tackle banditry, citing recent attacks and abductions in Yawota and Esiele Oyo.

The lawmaker urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by providing useful information to aid rescue operations.

He reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening security in the state and assured constituents that leaders at all levels would continue to collaborate to safeguard lives and property.
