…Urges massive votes for Adekanmbi, other APM candidates
…Announces 2,000 solar lights per LG, appointments for aggrieved members
The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has disclosed that the ongoing reconciliation meetings of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) across the seven zones of the state are aimed at resolving rifts among party members across wards and local governments.
Barr. Lawal, who spoke during the zonal meeting for Ibadan Less City held on Thursday at the newly built Ona-Ara registry hall, said all complaints raised by members are being documented and will be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for amicable resolution.
He noted that the Makinde administration has executed several projects in the Ibadan Less City zone, including grading of roads and installation of solar lights, assuring that government will take appropriate measures to address outstanding concerns.
The Deputy Governor, while urging local government chairmen to focus on developmental projects, assured that each local government will be provided with 2,000 solar lights.
He also said aggrieved members would be accommodated through appointments as Special Assistants and Supervisory Councillors, adding that appointments would be made after the reconciliation tour.
Barr. Lawal reiterated that government would embark on grading of motorable roads leading to farm settlements and directed council chairmen to compile lists of roads requiring urgent attention.
He stressed the importance of regular executive and general meetings at ward and local government levels, warning that lack of constant meetings breeds fundamental problems.
Barr. Lawal, however, called for support for all APM candidates, including its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde.
His words: “In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde is the first son of Oyo to come out boldly to contest for President of Nigeria. In the western zone, this is the first time Oyo State is producing a presidential candidate. We must rally round him and give him massive support with our votes.”
The Deputy Governor, who urged party candidates to maintain close relationships with members, noted that leaders need genuine relationship with the grassroots beyond money.
He appelaed to party chairmen to embrace all members, describing the outer zone as the richest in terms of benefits, and added that the circular road project alone would lift the state’s economy.
He urged people of Ona-Ara Local Government to deliver massive votes for Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, the party’s governorship candidate who hails from the council.
Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Adekanmbi blamed the current hunger in the country on the APC-led Federal Government, while calling on Nigerians and the people of Oyo state to support Governor Makinde and him ahead of the forthcoming election.
He assured that ward leaders and members would decide on party affairs and appointments, stressing he would not interfere in appointments across local governments, if elected.
The meeting was attended by APM stakeholders and leaders, including the Makinde/Bimbo campaign committee headed by Dr. Nureni Adeniran; Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke and a host of others.
