*”There’s Nowhere Like Home” – Tinubu Urges Nigerian Doctors Abroad to Return*
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian medical professionals living and working overseas to return home and play an active role in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
The President made the appeal on Thursday during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The delegation was led by the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Speaking during the meeting, President Tinubu recalled his personal experience of studying and working in the United States before returning to Nigeria.
He said the knowledge and professional experience he gained abroad helped shape his career, but emphasized that he found greater purpose in contributing to his country’s growth.
According to the President, no matter the opportunities available overseas, Nigeria remains home.
“I’ve been through that journey. I’m home, and I can tell you there’s nowhere like home. I experienced life in America and learned valuable lessons in accountancy and finance before returning to Nigeria. Since coming back, it has been a rewarding challenge to contribute to building our nation,” he said.
Tinubu encouraged members of the diaspora medical community to inspire their colleagues abroad to return and invest their skills in Nigeria.

The President assured them that his administration is committed to creating an environment where healthcare professionals can work effectively and build successful careers.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on improving governance, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities for all Nigerians.
“Reach out to your colleagues who are still abroad and encourage them to come home. We are working to create better opportunities and a more supportive environment where Nigerians can thrive. Your contribution to nation-building is invaluable,” he stated.
Tinubu expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would create a brighter future for younger generations.
*Focus on Poverty Reduction and Healthcare*
The President also reaffirmed his government’s determination to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life across the country.
He said his administration remains focused on delivering economic growth, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that more Nigerians enjoy the benefits of development.
“Poverty is not acceptable. We will continue to fight it, improve the welfare of our people, and build a more prosperous Nigeria,” the President added.
*Diaspora Role in Closing Healthcare Gaps*
The meeting highlighted the important role Nigerians in the diaspora can play in supporting national development, particularly in the healthcare sector, where the country continues to face shortages of skilled professionals.
The Federal Government has repeatedly emphasized the need for stronger collaboration with Nigerians abroad to improve healthcare delivery, transfer knowledge, and strengthen critical sectors of the economy.
