2027: “Tinubu Is Not A Healthy Man, He Should Face His Health” — Babachir Lawal
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has said President Bola Tinubu is not in good health and should consider stepping back after completing one term.
Speaking in a recent interview, Lawal said Nigerians are aware of the president’s frequent trips to France for medical reasons.
“President Tinubu is not a healthy man. Nigerians are not fooled when he goes to France. I’ve said it before. He has done four years, that is enough. He should face his health,” Lawal said.
Lawal also dismissed claims that the president is driven by wealth and luxury.
“Bola is not even someone who is materialistic or bothered about luxury. I don’t know why people said he has amassed so much money,” he said.
The former SGF described Tinubu’s lifestyle as modest, adding that aides were often instructed not to release certain official photos.
“Sometimes, I used to talk to aides not to send his pictures out because he will be looking so unkempt,” Lawal said.
According to Lawal, the president’s diet is simple and he has a long-standing habit of smoking.
“He wakes up in the morning and eats banana and groundnut, and that’s his food, or sometimes ogi and moi-moi. What I know he likes most is silk cigarettes. He smokes. He likes that a lot. He can’t do without it. I don’t know if he has stopped,” he said.
Lawal’s comments come amid growing political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates around the president’s health, performance, and possible re-election bid.
The Presidency has not yet responded to the remarks.
