Oyo Sugar Plant in Iseyin to Create 500 Jobs, Boost Agro-Industrial Growth
The Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited in Iseyin will create about 500 direct jobs and position Oyo State as an emerging sugar processing hub, according to Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, OYSADA.
OYSADA Director-General Dr. Debo Akande described the facility as a private sector-led, public sector-supported investment that will boost agro-industrial development and economic growth.
He said the sugar plant will produce 24 to 27 tonnes of brown sugar and 18 tonnes of molasses daily when completed. The project will also provide a reliable market for sugarcane farmers through a strengthened offtake system to stimulate production and improve rural incomes.
Akande credited Governor Seyi Makinde’s infrastructure investments for supporting the project, citing the 65km Moniya–Ijaiye–Iseyin Road and the ongoing 76.67km Iseyin–Fapote–Ogbomoso Road. The roads will improve goods movement and sustain raw material supply from farmers in the Ogbomoso axis.
“The investment shows how government-private sector collaboration can drive industrialization, create jobs, increase agricultural productivity and accelerate economic transformation,” Akande said.
OYSADA said it remains committed to attracting more agribusiness investments for sustainable production, employment, and shared prosperity.
