‘I Was Disqualified Because I Don’t Have Bum-Bum,’ Abuja Job Seeker Says

A Nigerian woman says she was disqualified from a hostess job interview in Abuja after officials screened applicants based on physical appearance and not qualifications.

The woman, who shared her experience online, said she applied for the role and arrived at the venue to find many other candidates.

“I’ve never been this embarrassed all my life. I went for one job interview today here in Abuja, and I applied as a hostess,” she said.

She alleged that officials began filtering candidates by height, body size, complexion, and overall appearance, with several applicants asked to leave before formal interviews started.

She said those who remained were told to line up and turn around while their bodies were assessed.

“They were asking us to do 360. They were checking our backside. If you don’t have bum-bum, leave. They didn’t even go through my CV. They didn’t even ask me anything,” she said.

The woman said she was disqualified without any review of her credentials or work experience. “From there, I carried my bag and started coming back home. This was how I was disqualified because I don’t have bum-bum,” she added.

Her account has drawn reactions online, with social media users debating appearance-based hiring and the pressure some women face over body image.

She said the experience left her humiliated and questioning why looks seemed to matter more than qualifications.
