Eight months pregnant woman drags husband to court
An eight-month pregnant housewife, Halima Yusuf, has asked an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to legally confirm her divorce from her husband, alleging neglect and physical abuse.
Yusuf told the court the marriage was contracted under Islamic law but has broken down irretrievably.
She alleged that her husband failed to provide food, welfare, and healthcare support during the marriage and assaulted her on several occasions.
The expectant mother said she is currently living with her parents in Mararaba due to challenges in the marriage.
In her petition, she asked the court to officially confirm the divorce and compel her husband to take responsibility for the pregnancy and the welfare of the unborn child.
Presiding Judge Mohammed Yakubu adjourned the case until June 11, 2026, for further hearing.
The case has renewed public debate on marital responsibilities toward pregnant women and the need for emotional, financial, and medical support during pregnancy.
