Tegbe: Oyo APC Kicks as Tinubu Overlooks Folarin, Akanbi, Other Stalwarts
Crisis is brewing in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress as concerned members fault President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over recent federal appointments, accusing him of sidelining loyal party faithful in favour of former opposition figures.
In a statement on Thursday, the aggrieved members described the trend as discouraging to those who “remained steadfast through difficult times” in the party.
Their grievance followed the recent nomination of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, after the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu. The group noted that both men contested the 2023 general elections on the platforms of other political parties, raising concerns about the APC’s reward system.
“This development sends a troubling message to committed party members who stood firm with the APC despite political storms,” the statement read. “It suggests that loyalty and consistency are no longer valued, while those who abandoned the party during critical moments are being elevated.”
The group said respected Oyo APC leaders including Teslim Folarin and Soji Akanbi, alongside other long-standing members, have remained loyal but continue to be overlooked for federal appointments.
They warned that the pattern risks weakening internal cohesion and morale, especially with future elections ahead.
“Many of us worked tirelessly for the party’s success at various levels during the last general election. It is therefore disheartening to feel sidelined, almost like strangers in a party we helped build,” the statement added.
While reaffirming their commitment to the APC and its progressive ideals, the members urged President Tinubu to reassess his approach to appointments and ensure that loyalty, sacrifice, and long-term dedication are duly recognised.
“We remain committed to the growth and success of the APC,” the statement concluded, “but fairness, inclusivity, and recognition of loyal members must be at the heart of our party’s leadership decisions.”
