Fubara finally breaks silence over Rivers Assembly impeachment moves

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on residents to remain peaceful and avoid panic amid ongoing efforts by the State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

The governor made the appeal on Sunday while attending a church service in Port Harcourt to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Addressing the congregation, Fubara expressed confidence that the political situation would ultimately be resolved.

He explained that his decision to remain largely quiet since the impeachment moves began was deliberate, noting that his calm disposition is sustained by his faith in God.

Reflecting on remarks he made earlier at the New Year banquet held at Government House, the governor said “dogs bark when they do not understand,” a comment he suggested reflected his response to the current controversy.

Also speaking during the service, the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, urged residents to act with restraint and a sense of responsibility.

Her message aligned with the sermon delivered by the Dean of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Blessing Eyinda, who reminded worshippers that all actions have lasting consequences.

Professor Odu further appealed to citizens to continue offering prayers for the state leadership, describing public support through prayer as an important pillar of strength for the administration as it navigates the present challenges.
