PDP Ward 7 Leaders Refute Dotun Bright’s Claims of Imposition, Call Allegations Baseless and Misleading

The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 7, Oriire Local Government Area, has been drawn to a statement made by Mr. Adedotun Bright Oyekan announcing his resignation from the party and alleging imposition during the last ward congress. For the purpose of clarity and public record, the ward leadership categorically dismisses his claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to distort the truth.

Contrary to Mr. Bright’s allegations, the last ward congress was transparent, democratic, and devoid of any form of imposition. Aspirants across all positions were given equal opportunity to consult, engage stakeholders, and present themselves to members. The outcome of the congress simply reflected the will of the majority, a will Mr. Bright failed to secure due to his weakened relationship with party members and leaders, resulting from years of political disconnect and non-performance while in office.

It is important to note that Mr. Bright’s preferred candidate did not lose due to imposition, but because he could not garner the needed support from the same people he repeatedly overlooked during his tenure as Supervisor for Works and later as Councillor representing Ward 7. For six years combined, Mr. Bright held privileged positions in Oriire Local Government, yet he left no visible impact on the ward, no programs for the people, and no meaningful contribution that could have earned him genuine grassroots goodwill needed during the congress.

The leadership also frowns at his attempt to blame the party for his personal failures. It is on record that Mr. Bright enjoyed exceptional support from his political leader, Hon. Babatunde Ganiyu Laaro, who played a key role in his political rise. It is therefore disappointing that he would abandon both the party and his benefactor simply because the consensus process that favoured him in the past did not favour him this time. Leadership is service, not entitlement.

The PDP Ward 7 wishes to reassure the public that our internal processes remain democratic, open, and guided by party constitution. We urge the public and other political platforms to be cautious of individuals who blame the system only when outcomes do not favour them. Mr. Bright’s exit has no bearing on the unity, strength, or structure of our party, and we remain focused on building a stronger, people-centered PDP in Oriire Local Government.
