BREAKING: Lagos Assembly removes Speaker, Obasa over N43.5b allegations 

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of multiple statutory and financial infractions.

The impeachment follows accusations that Mr. Obasa oversaw the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for backup vehicles for lawmakers, among other controversial financial activities, as earlier reported by The Gazette.

Mr. Obasa, 52, was first elected Speaker on June 8, 2015, serving alongside former one-term governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Following his removal, Mr. Obasa was replaced by his deputy, Lasbat Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1. Mrs. Meranda
