Oyo bars trailers from Iseyin/Fapote/Ogbomoso express road
The Iseyin/ Fapote/ ogbomoso expressway has been shut to heavy duty trucks and trailers.
This decision was taken to protect the newly commissioned road from trailers that divert from the federal government Ibadan/oyo/ ogbomoso Road which is yet to be completed after several years.
In a statement, the commissioner for information Prince Dotun Oyelade said that the ministry of Public works had to quickly move in and block the road for heavy duty vehicles because the expressway was designed for lighter vehicles like cars and buses and not Trailers.
According to the state Commissioner for public works Prof Dawoud Sangodoyin, ‘This road was designed primarily to link the state agrarian transportation, traders and intercity commuters all targetting the development of oyo state economy.
With the incursion of the road by heavy trailers the road structure. as strong and ressilient as it is may be adversely affected and defeat the purpose for which it was built’
The ministry of Public Works has taken steps to temporarily seal all roads linking the Expressway while only buses, cabstars and cars are allowed to ply the route until further notice.
The Iseyin- Fapote- Ogbomoso Expressway was commissioned on May 30 this year 2024 at a cost of N43.1bn.
It is 76.67 kilometers of roads through an hitherto uncharted muddle of lakes and rocks
