Donald Trump Campaign Files Petition Against UK’s Labour Party Over Election Interference

Former United States President, Donald Trump’s Campaign has accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labour Party of “blatant foreign interference” in the U.S. presidential election.

Trump’s campaign made the allegation after the UK’s Labour volunteers travelled to the U.S. to assist in US’s Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris’s campaign

Reuters reports that the campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, demanding an investigation into what it called “apparent illegal foreign national contributions” by the UK Labour Party, accepted by Harris’s campaign.

The complaint referenced media reports and a now-deleted LinkedIn post by Sofia Patel, Labour’s head of operations, who mentioned that “nearly 100” current and former Labour staffers would be heading to the U.S. to help elect Harris.

The complaint stated, “Those searching for foreign interference in our elections need to look no further than [the] LinkedIn post,” adding that the interference is “occurring in plain sight.”

However, the UK Prime Minister, Starmer, who met Trump in New York in September, told reporters during a flight to Samoa that he did not expect the complaint to affect relations with Trump, should he win the election on November 5.

Starmer, who noted that Labour volunteers had supported U.S. elections for years said, “They’re doing it in their spare time, as volunteers, staying with other volunteers. It’s what they’ve done in previous elections and what they’re doing now —it’s straightforward.”
