8 Days to Go: UI Students, Dons Set for Odidiomo Legislative Summit

…Two-Day Summit to Promote Service-Driven Leadership, Transformative Governance

The countdown has begun to the Students’ Legislative Summit organised by the Students’ Representative Council, SRC, University of Ibadan, in honour of Hon. Dhikirullah Olajide Stanley Adedeji, popularly known as Odidiomo, Federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency.

The two-day summit is scheduled for September 22 and 23, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. It is expected to bring together students, academics, political stakeholders and young leaders to deliberate on leadership, public service and the future of governance in Nigeria.

Themed “The Service Paradigm: Transforming Mindsets to Service-Driven Leadership in Nigeria,” the summit is designed to provide a platform for intellectual engagement on the need for a new generation of leaders who place service, accountability, innovation and public interest at the centre of governance.

With eight days to the event, anticipation is building within the university community. Students and university dons are expected to participate actively in the discussions and activities lined up.

The organisers said the summit would offer students an opportunity to engage with contemporary leadership challenges and explore practical approaches to building a culture of responsible, service-oriented leadership among Nigerian youths.

Hon. Adedeji, who is also the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, is being honoured in recognition of his legislative and public service engagement.

The event will feature thought-provoking discussions, leadership conversations and interactive sessions aimed at encouraging students to see leadership beyond positions and titles, but as a responsibility to society.

The Speaker of the University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council, 13th Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Oludele, is expected to lead the student legislative leadership at the summit.

The summit is expected to further strengthen conversations around youth participation, leadership development and the role of students in shaping the future of democratic governance in Nigeria.
