CJN summons Rivers CJ, orders probe of judges
Judges from both the federal and state high courts who have issued conflicting decisions in political cases affecting Rivers State are now under investigation by a panel established by the National Judicial Council.
On Monday, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, convened a meeting with the panel in her office, instructing that the investigation report be submitted within the week.
As per her directive, all judges implicated in the various cases stemming from the ongoing political turmoil between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his former mentor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesome Wike, have been summoned by the investigative panel.
The panel is chaired by a former justice of the Court of Appeal, whose name has not been disclosed, and includes two heads of courts as members.
Additionally, the Chief Justice of the Federal High Court has been called to appear before the panel for questioning on Tuesday.
Sources indicate that while several formal complaints have been submitted to the Council, it was the Chief Justice who initiated a thorough investigation in response to the public outcry surrounding the court cases.
