80th Birthday: Makinde Honors Onikepo Akande, Names 3.5-km Felele Road After Her

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has lauded former Minister of Industry, Chief (Mrs.) Onikepo Akande (OON, CON), as a true patriot and a pillar of business and administrative development in Nigeria. 

Speaking through his Deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, at a celebration marking her 80th birthday in Lagos, Makinde emphasized Akande’s exceptional dedication and the lasting legacy she has created throughout her career.

Governor Makinde, who approved the renaming of the 3.5-kilometer Felele Road in Ibadan after the distinguished former President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, praised her as a role model whose life has been an inspiring example for younger generations.

He said: “Mama Akande is not only respected as a remarkable woman, but also as someone whose contributions to Oyo State and Nigeria have earned her numerous accolades,” Makinde noted, highlighting her impact on both public and private sectors.

Barr. Lawal commended Akande’s tenure as Minister of Industry, where her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s economy and her leadership in various roles as a public administrator, community leader, philanthropist, and business executive have been widely recognized. He conveyed Makinde’s appreciation for her steadfast dedication to mentoring others, especially women in Nigeria, whom she continues to inspire with her achievements.

Concluding his remarks, Barr. Lawal offered prayers for Akande’s continued health and longevity, expressing hope that she will continue to share her inspirational story and instill values of hope and perseverance in others.
