SMATO distributes bags of fertilizer, sprayers to constituents

The House of Representatives member for Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency in Oyo state, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola Smato has commenced the distribution of 50kg fertilizer and spraying machines to farmers in his constituency free of charge.

The programme was the first phase of the exercise, which formed part of a broader strategy to ensure sustainable agricultural practices.

During the flagging off event on Monday, the 9th of September, 2024, at Mayin in Surulere L.G, the lawmaker stated that the distribution was intended to address farmers’ challenges, promote agricultural production, and increase crop yields for smallholder farmers.

Smato, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Friendship Group to Pakistan, and Deputy Chairman House Committee of Solid Minerals, explained that the programme was designed to empower the farmers within the Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency to be able to address the challenges faced with food production and improve the quantity and quality of farm produce for the people of the constituency and beyond.

He noted that fertilizer distribution demonstrates a substantial investment in the agricultural sector, reflecting a commitment to enhancing food security and supporting the livelihood of farmers to boost food production in the state.

The lawmaker, who gave his stewardship in office in the last one year, however assured that he will continue to deliver on his promises made during the 2023 campaign.

He called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the inputs to increase food output in the constituency and Oyo State at large.

The lawmaker promised to continue supporting multi-sectoral interventions in the fields of agriculture, education, and health for the betterment of his constituency.
