Kegites Club (Ilya du Kakanfo), LAUTECH Celebrates 27th Keg Anniversary With New Vice Chancellor

The Kakanfo Council of Agbangs, comprising alumni from LAUTECH and members of the Kegites Club International, gathered to congratulate Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu on his appointment as the 7th substantive Vice Chancellor. His assumption of office coincides with the council’s 27th keg anniversary, marking a significant occasion for the alumni community.

Professor Kalilu, according to Patron Ola Obitusin Chairman Planning Committee and
Vice Chairman, Kakanfo Council of Agbangs, is a distinguished Art History scholar, who is recognized for his dedication to promoting African culture and values, aligning seamlessly with the ethos of the Kegites Club.

Obitusin, speaking further said the University is fortunate to have as Vice Chancellor an individual in the caliber of Prof Kalilu who he described as a goalgetter and progressively minded person. He reiterated the readiness of the Kegites to continue to support LAUTECH.

The anniversary celebrations featured a series of engaging activities, including:

  • Awareness Gyration at the Ilya du Kakanfo Shrine
  • A Courtesy Visit to the Vice Chancellor
  • An Anniversary Lecture at The Hall, LAUTECH
  • Award Presentations
  • Agbangs Gyration
  • Coronation Gyration at the LAUTECH Guest House

During the anniversary lecture, Prof. Niyi Osunbade, Head of the Department of English Language, delivered a presentation titled “Relationship Management and Promotion of Cultural Heritage through Socialisation: The Kegite Example.” He highlighted the Kegite Club’s pivotal role in fostering relationship management and cultural heritage through socialization, or “gyration.”

Prof. Osunbade explained that the Kegite Club employs unique verbal communication methods, utilizing a blend of English and indigenous languages, while practices like “tilkering” promote social harmony. He emphasized the importance of networking, empathy, emotional intelligence, and active listening within the group’s framework.

In conclusion, Prof. Osunbade underscored the significance of relationship management in cultural preservation, positioning the Kegite Club as a leader in promoting African heritage. The event culminated in awards recognizing outstanding contributions among members, celebrating the legacy of the Kakanfo Council and the new leadership at LAUTECH. LSF Engr. Oladayo Awodele, Chairman of the Kakanfo Council of Agbangs, and Chief Adeyemi Adesoji Dennis, Pioneer Chief of Ilya du Kakanfo, collaborated with Patron Ola Obitusin to ensure the anniversary celebration was a resounding success.
