Makinde’s Administration Revamps Quality Healthcare in Oyo State

Under the administration of Governor Makinde in Oyo State, several improvements have been made in the health services sector since 2019, significantly health watchers and analysts has also acknowledged positive effects of quality health care and services in Oyo State.

The administration of Governor Makinde has prioritized primary healthcare by renovating and equipping primary health centers across the state. This ensures that essential healthcare services are easily accessible to communities, especially in rural areas.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives, Makinde’s administration has ensured the introduction of Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme (OYSHIA) which is providing affordable and quality healthcare services to all residents of the state. This scheme is reducing the financial burden of healthcare expenses on individuals and families.

The government of Oyo State under the leadership of Governor Makinde has invested in the development and renovation of healthcare facilities, including hospitals and government clinics . This includes the upgrade of equipments and infrastructure to improve the quality of healthcare services provided. He has also put much effort on human resources. Efforts have been made to increase the number of healthcare professionals in the state. The government has recruited health care workers and trained more doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers to ensure adequate staffing in healthcare facilities.

Positive health means becoming whole-heartedly engaged with our own health care. It means not outsourcing our health to the health care system. The administration of Makinde has improved emergency medical services by providing well-equipped ambulances and establishing a coordinated emergency response system. This ensures prompt and efficient emergency medical care for residents of the state.

Time and health are two precious assets that we don’t recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted. Inorder not to avoid mass health deterioration in Oyo State, Makinde’s administration has conducted various health awareness campaigns and programs to educate the public on preventive measures for diseases, healthy lifestyle practices, and the importance of regular medical check-ups.

Various agencies of government under the ministry of health has also organized outreach programs and community health campaigns to raise awareness about preventive healthcare practices and the importance of regular medical check-ups.The government has also made efforts to ensure the availability of essential drugs and medical supplies in primary health centers. This is crucial for the effective treatment and management of common illnesses and diseases at the primary healthcare level.

The allocation of 40.9 billion Naira, which is approximately 9.44% of the 2024 Oyo State budget, to the health sector reflects the commitment of Seyi Makinde’s administration to prioritize healthcare and improve the overall well-being of the residents of Oyo State. This significant investment in the health sector will have several potential impacts by improving healthcare infrastructure, upgrade medical equipment and technology, enhanced human resources, expand healthcare services,improve health education and awareness as well strengthened public health programs across the state where programs such as immunization campaigns, disease surveillance, and outbreak response can be achieved

It is evident that Oyo State under Seyi Makinde’s administration is strengthen primary healthcare services and ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all residents of the state.
