LAUTECH graduates 2754, celebrates three years of single ownership 

A total of two thousand, seven hundred and fifty-four (2,754) students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, are set to graduate from the Institution at the convocation ceremony holding on Friday April 28, 2023.

A breakdown of the figure reveals that a total of eight (8) students are graduating with first class while three hundred and thirty-two other (332) are coasting home with second Class Upper degree. Another seven hundred and sixty-six (766) will earn their degrees in the Second Class lower category, while two hundred and forty-nine will finish in third class category. The remaining thirteen (13) students are graduating with Passes.

A total of sixty-three (63) students graduating in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, with MBBS, while 1286 are graduating from the Faculty of Nursing Sciences.

Other details are that a total of one thousand and nine hundred and sixty-two students are earning their post-graduate degrees.

Breakdown of the figure includes that fifty-five new Ph.D. holders are being minted while one thousand and eight hundred and eighty-eight (1883) are graduating with Masters degrees. A cumulative total of twenty-four (24) are also going home with Postgraduate Diplomas.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu who gave the hints at a press parley held at the Institution’s Council Chamber yesterday, explained that it has been a smooth sail since the Oyo State government secured full ownership of LAUTECH three years ago.

According to him, this year’s Convocation is unique in many ways as it would also include the investiture of the University’s 6th Chancellor, His Majesty Sir Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, the Paramount ruler of Emouha Kingdom in Rivers State.

Sir Awuse, DSSRS, Nne-Nwe-Eli Emohua Xlll (Olo IV), is the first non-Yoruba to be Chancellor of the 33-year-old institution. He is a renowned accountant and politician who has contributed immensely to the well being of his people.

Expressing great delight at the University being ranked by world renown ranking body, webometrics, as number seven in the Country and the best State University, Liasu said both staff and students are committed to doing more in the coming years.

“It is my pleasure to inform you that that our researches have continued to consolidate on the leading positions and that has continued to impact positively on the image of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, “ Liasu said.


“For instance, in the year under review, five members of the academics in our University, former Provost of the College of Health Sciences; Professor Samuel Sunday Taiwo of the department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, leader of the LAUTECH NANO+ Research group and renowned decorated researcher; Professor Agbaje Lateef, onetime member of the Governing Council; Professor Ojeyemi Olabemiwo, as well as Dr. Ajamu Solomon Olalere and Professor Falohun Adeleye Samuel, did the University proud by winning National 2021 National Research Fund of Tetfund.”


Recently, LAUTECH was ranked for the first time by the Times Higher Education (THE), UK where the University emerged as 10th in the country and the best state University in Nigeria. THE examined 1,799 Universities across 104 countries and its ranking table is based on 13 performance indicators, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and International outlook. The stellar performances of the University attest to the quality of scholars that the University parades and their quest to contribute to knowledge generation among comity of scholars worldwide.

The LAUTECH has also, for the umpteenth time, been ranked best State University in Nigeria.

Latest ranking of World Universities by Webometrics listed the Institution as number seven among Nigerian Universities even as it rated number one among Universities of Technology, in an exercise premised on three factors i.e impact rank, openness rank and excellence rank. LAUTECH scored 1779, 1302 and 2902 in the highlighted factors.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), has meanwhile increased admission Quota for Medical Programme for LAUTECH to One hundred and twenty (120) from seventy-five (75).
