Olopoeyan can’t speak for us— NNPP Reps’ candidates tell supporters 

Ahead of the rescheduling governorship election slated for Saturday March 18, 2023, some candidates for the House of Representatives in the just concluded presidential and national Assembly elections under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have told their supporters that the South West leader of the party, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan does not have the capacity to speak for them as to which political party or gubernatorial candidate to support.

This clarification was made in a statement issued and made available to journalists by the spokesperson of the affected candidates, Mr Akeem Ajibade to react to some online news platforms that the NNPP in the state has concluded arrangement to team up with other political parties to adopt a particular candidate for the governorship election.

The statement further stated that the NNPP House of Representatives candidates had earlier held a press conference after the last national Assembly election where they alleged that the INEC deliberately made their party’s logo and name to be blurred, fainted or omitted in the ballot paper used for the national Assembly election while the leadership of the party also failed to make adequate provisions for the party’s agents on the day of election.

The statement pointed out that about 80% of their supporters found it difficult to cast their votes for the NNPP and consequently left the polling units in annoyance or cast their votes for another party since they could not identify the party’s logo in the ballot.

The statement noted that despite the fact that they had raised these irregularities emanated in the said election, neither the INEC nor the so called leaders of the party in the State has done anything to address the abnormalities.

The statement added that as a result of the aforementioned facts, no leader of the party can speak or decide for the candidates as to which party to support with their followers in their respected constituencies in the upcoming governorship election.

According to the statement, “we the NNPP candidates in the last presidential and national Assembly elections are yet to confirm or agree to support any governorship candidate from other political parties.

We want to state categorically that Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan who is a member and stakeholder of NNPP does not in way have capacity to speak for us on which party or candidate to support because we have not met to deliberate to that effect. As we all know that every politics is local, we are fully in charge of our followers and supporters in our various constituencies.

We are by this medium calling on our teeming supporters to remain calm and discountenance with any purported adoption of candidate by Alhaji Olopoeyan on our behalf whatsoever as we have not had any discussion on that. We will therefore let our supporters know of our next moves within the shortest time.” The statement concluded.
