Ibadan Youths Progressive Indigenes Association Tackles Mogajis Opposed To Makinde’s Endorsement

….says nothing unusual retaining performing governor for sustainable development

Following the reaction of a group of Mogajis in Ibadanland led by Mogaji Adekunle Aperin Bode, purportedly opposing the endorsement of Governor Seyi Makinde for second term by Mogaji Adanla led group, a foremost indigenous Ibadan sociopolitical group; the Ibadan Youths Progressive Indigenes Association (IYPIA) has cautioned against reckless and self serving statements that may not have any connection with the interest of Ibadanland.

The President-general of IYPIA, Aare Ogunmola Sakiru Ishola, made this known in a press statement Tuesday, February 14 evening and made available to journalists in Ibadan.

Recall that Engr. Abduljeleel Adekunle Kareem, Mogaji Adanla led other Mogajis in Ibadanland to declare their support for Governor Makinde’s reelection for a second term of office over the weekend.

Mogaji Adanla, who is the Coordinator and Spokesperson for other Mogajis at the event premised their endorsement of Governor Makinde on sterling performance, good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of the state across all the geopolitical zones.

However, barely three days after, another group led by Mogaji Adekunle Aperin Bode reportedly held another press conference where the group dissociated themselves from the Mogaji Adanla’s group saying those who claimed (Adanla group) to have endorsed the governor are politicians who called themselves Mogaji’s, adding that all candidates including those who are not Ibadan Indigenes only seek their blessing not endorsement.

Speaking further, Mogaji Muktar Adewale Gbadeyanka in his remarks also alleged at the Yemetu Aladorin’s Tuesday’s press conference that the puported endorsement by Mogaji Adanla and other Mogajis was not the decision of all Mogajis in Ibadanland, saying those who are behind it were on their own.

In a swift reaction, Ibadan Youths Progressive Indigenes Association while condemning the move by Mogaji Aperin Adekunle Bode’s led group expressed rude shock at the development.

Leader of the group, Aare Ogunmola Sakiru Ishola in the said Tuesday’s press statement said, “we’re surprised to read this news because they we have video evidence which they sent to us of the endorsement of governor seyi Makinde in 2019 showing the leader of this group Mogaji Adekunle Aperin Bode as part of those that endorsed Engr Seyi Makinde back then.

“we’re not only surprised but also appalled to see the same Mogaji aperin leading some group saying they did not endorse any candidate, all for what purpose? Are they speaking in the interest of Ibadan or their personal and selfish interests?”

IYPIA however, cautioned political aspirants in the 2023 general elections to be careful in dealing with Mogaji aperin and his group alleging that the new and contrary position to 2019 was born of of what was called ‘stomach infrastructure’ with the aim of going round to milk candidates from every political party on ground of being apolitical.

IYPIA maintained that Mogaji Oloko and Mogaji Adanla led group of Ibadan Mogajis are not unknown to them saying “they have a long history of protecting the honor and interest of Ibadanland which was evident at the twilight of late governor abiola Ajimobi’s administration and we will not allow any group with self serving motives to be discredit these illustrious sons of Ibadanland.”
