Ondo gov, Akeredolu orders arrest of traditional ruler

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of one Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi.

According to the number one citizen of the state, the arrest came following the manner Oloworiyibi had been parading himself as the Olofun of Irele in the state’s Irele Local Government Area.

The State Government reaffirmed that no one has been appointed or approved as the Olofun of Irele kingdom.

The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale, has via a signed letter forwarded to the State’s Commissioner of Police, on behalf of the government asserted that Oloworiyibi’s operations were unlawful and overbroad.

The government also warned that his actions could fuel unrest within the peaceful residences of the historic town, with consequences that are easier to foresee.

“The position of the State Government is that no person has been approved or appointed as the Olofun of Irele kingdom, hence the activities of Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi are not only overreaching but illegal and capable of causing disaffection amongst the peace-loving people of the ancient town which consequences can be better imagined.

“It is in the light of the foregoing, amongst others, that the Ondo State Government is ordering the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi.”
