TRAINING: Don’t thank me, I am doing my work— Makinde tells 350 Civil/Public servants

A total of 350 civil and public servants in Oyo state were trained on Tuesday at the Ibadan Business School by the Oyo State Government’s Ministry of Establishments and Training, MOUTHPIECE NGR reports.

The training, themed “Human Capital Development Program for Civil/Public Servants is aimed to create a digital economy and to strengthen civil servants capacities to lead and deliver services to citizens and carry out e-Government Masterplan.

Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo state, asked the Civil and Public servants not to thank him for organizing the program while he was speaking and declaring the training open, saying he was only doing his job.

“This is not too serious,” he remarked. “We did what we promised the Civil Servants of Oyo state. Gone are the days when Oyo state is in the back quarters. Now, we are actually setting the pace.”

“As an administration, if you are not carried along, properly trained and exposed, we will be wasting our time. You are the one to implement whatever we want to do and also ensure that you are adequately qualified for the work.”

Makinde who was joined by his deputy, Adebayo Abdul Raheem Lawal, the Oyo State Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, the Commssioner for Environments, Abiodun Oni and a large group of others, continued by saying that when this administration took office in 2019, employee moral was at lowest point.

“I spoke with civil servants throughout the campaign, and many stated that their salaries were late, I promised that there would be a GSM date which is the 25th.”

At that time, training, recruitment, conversion, and promotion were all at embargo, but when we arrived, we lifted the embargo. Nearly everyone has received promotion so far.

Conversion and recruitment have both been cleared. Therefore, we shall keep taking care of the Civil servants in Oyo state.”

“One thing that is unique is the fact that Nigerian and indeed Oyo state were going into serious economic challenges. For us, we will keep placing a high priority on building Oyo State’s human capability.”

“We will continue to give this administration our best effort. But those who receive much also have to give much.”

As Nigerians prepare for election season, the Governor urged civil servants to resist being mislead by politicians who claim that his government only cares about paying salaries. He argued that his administration has been working on numerous projects and is succeeding in other areas as well.

“We are currently in election season; inform them that we have been working hard on improving our infrastructure and performing well in other areas”

He reminisced and mentioned that his late mother had worked as a telephone operator here. It is a difficult atmosphere, but at least having money flowing in would take care of certain problems, he added.
