Police arrest two suspected killers of neighbour’s child in Niger

Usman Sabiu, 22, and Nafiu Umar, 18, both from Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State have been arrested by the police over alleged kidnap and killing of a 13-year-old boy identified as Yasir Salisu.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, while parading the suspected killers on Monday, revealed that the victim was killed by his kidnappers as a cover-up after identifying them to be his neighbours.

According to the spokesperson, the victim was reported missing on July 29.

The image maker of the police further explained that during questioning, Usman Sabiu has confessed to having collaborated with Nafiu Umar and kidnapped the missing person and took him to the house of Nafiu, with the aim of collecting N100,000 from the father of the victim as ransom.

The police spokesman revealed that the suspects leveled an allegation that the victim was strangled to death when he could not give out the contact number of his father in order to demand ransom, having also identified them.

According to the PPRO, “In the course of the investigation, the suspects led police operatives to a river bank in Hayin-Nasarawa where the deceased was buried in a shallow grave; however, the corpse was exhumed and deposited at Umar Yar’adua Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

He sent message of advice to parents and guardians to monitor the movements of their ward’s within the community for safety and security.
