Police arrest fake soldier extorting money from Adamawa residents

A man has been apprehended in Adamawa State for allegedly parading himself as a military officer and extorting money from members of the public.

Paul Shaltha, 22, a resident of Sabon Gari, in Sangere FUTY community of Girei Local Government Area, has been arrested by the men of the state Police Command connected to the Girei Divisional Police Headquarters.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, SP Suleiman Ngudoje, has via a statement released on Monday, said the victim has been charged with extorting money from tricycle operators and residents.

“Paul Shaltha, the self-acclaimed soldier was on Sunday arrested for extorting money from a tricycle operator who allegedly violated traffic rules,” the statement stated.

“The operatives apprehended the suspect who was sighted parading himself as a military man, threatening and extorting money from the public,” the police stated.
