Oyo Assembly impeaches deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan

Oyo State House of Assembly has impeached Engr Rauf Olaniyan, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State.

The embattled Olaniyan was impeached after members of the Oyo House of Assembly tendered and considered the recommendation of a seven-man panel constituted by the Chief Judge, Munta Abimbola, to look into allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him.

According to the report of the committee tendered on Monday at the plenary, the second in command in the state was considered guilty of all the allegations.

All the 23 PDP legislators at the plenary supported the recommendations of the panel.

A High Court in Oyo State sitting in Ibadan, Thursday, dismissed a case which the Deputy Governor filed to challenge the move to get him out of office.

The state assembly started the impeachment process against the embattled Olaniyan after he defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Some of the allegations filed against Olaniyan are; Gross misconduct, Abuse of office, Financial recklessness, Abandonment of official duty, Insubordination.
