Oyo Assembly accepts nomination of Bayo Lawal as new Deputy Governor

Oyo State House of Assembly has welcomed the nomination of Barrister Bayo Lawal as the new Deputy Governor of the state.

MOUTHPIECE NGR had earlier reported that Oyo State House of Assembly has impeached Engr Rauf Olaniyan, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State.

It was gathered that the House of assembly has approved the nomination of Lawal.

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has sent the name of the new Deputy Governor to the House.

The lawmakers have approved the nomination of the new Deputy Governor during their plenary in Ibadan.

Sanjo Adedoyin, the majority leader, said that the nomination was in order.

Kazeem Olayanju, supported the nomination.

Report has it that there was heavy security presence at the state secretariat which houses the House of Assembly.

The embattled Olaniyan was impeached after members of the Oyo House of Assembly tendered and considered the recommendation of a seven-man panel constituted by the Chief Judge, Munta Abimbola, to look into allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him.

According to the report of the committee tendered on Monday at the plenary, the second in command in the state was considered guilty of all the allegations.

All the 23 PDP legislators at the plenary supported the recommendations of the panel.

The state assembly started the impeachment process against the embattled Olaniyan after he defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Some of the allegations filed against Olaniyan are; Gross misconduct, Abuse of office, Financial recklessness, Abandonment of official duty, Insubordination.
