JUST IN: Presidency tough, I am eager to leave office— Buhari 

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has said he’s anxious to leave office by May 29, 2023, when his second term of four years ends.

He said rather than return to his “better house” in Kaduna, he would return to Daura, his home town in Katsina State.

Buhari noted that the burden of work as President had prevented him from visiting his hometown for a year.

His Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement on Monday that the President made the remarks when hosting Northern governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, as well as lawmakers and party stalwarts, who paid him an Eid-El-Kabir homage in his Daura residence.

“The observation that I abandoned my base was made by the Emir of Daura, Dr Faruk Umar Faruk, at the Eid prayer ground. He held the microphone and told everyone that the last time I was in Daura was during the Eid-el-Kabir of 2021,” the statement quoted the President as saying.

Buhari said he would return to Daura and not Kaduna because Kaduna is too close to Abuja.

“I am eager to go. I can tell you it has been tough. I am grateful to God that people appreciate the personal sacrifices we have been making.

“I wish the person who is coming after me the very best,” he added.

On security, the President said the North-West had posed more challenges, noting that his government achieved some success in other parts of the country, including the North-East and South-South.

Buhari urged the APC stalwarts to keep working for the good of Nigerians.

He also implored political leaders and others in privileged places to support the less privileged.

“If you are greedy, you won’t look around to see what is happening with those less endowed,” he said.
