INTERVIEW: How I moved motion for reinstatement of 187 dismissed LAUTECH workers— Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin

The Honourable representing Ogbomoso South Local Government cum Majority Leader at Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin has explained unequivocally how his motion facilitated the reinstatement of 187 LAUTECH workers.

Adedoyin made the disclosure in an exclusive radio interview last week Tuesday on Parrot FM, which was monitored and transcribed by MOUTHPIECE NGR.

The 187 LAUTECH Teaching Hospital workers were dismissed during Ajimobi-led administration for no just reasons.

Here are some of the recaps of the interview:

Q: Can you please introduce yourself, sir?

A: Good day, everyone. My name is Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, the Honourable representing Ogbomoso South Local Government at Oyo State House of Assembly. I doubled as Majority Leader of the 9th House of Assembly.

Q: To start with, what are the responsibilities of lawmakers?

A: Thank you! The responsibilities of lawmakers as contained in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended, are strictly as follows; Lawmaking, Representation, Oversight functions, Approval of appropriation Bill. Nowadays, it’s the misconception masses hold about lawmakers that made us resorted to empowerment programme as a way of giving back to our constituents.

Q: Talking about the empowerment programme, we learnt sometimes ago, you organised a mega empowerment programme for your constituents, are you getting direct paycheck for the empowerment or the funding came from personal pocket.

A: Yes, we directed some of our entitlement as lawmakers for empowerment, no special funds for that purpose.

Q: How about Constituency Allowance?

A: Thank you! Allowance of such like is not appropriated for empowerment, but rather part of an office running cost as a member of Legislative arm. It’s then upon any Legislature to decide for which human needs the money will be appropriated.

Q: Taking your Constituency (Ogbomoso South) into consideration, you’ve secured returning ticket for reelection bid, what have you done differently in the course of representing your people?

A: Like I said earlier, Lawmaking is a major function of Legislature. And this is being exercised through Motion and Bill sponsorship. On a personal note, upon my assumption of office, I sponsored some people-focused Motions that have positive effect on masses. Significant among them was the Motion I sponsored to facilitate reinstatement of unjustly deposed 187 LAUTECH Teaching Hospital workers after their outcry was intimated with me. They have all been reinstated to their respective offices.

Notable among the Motions was the one I sponsored for prompt invitation of Director of Works and FERMA when Takie-Seminary Road was abandoned. They were both invited and subsequently directed that the road be completed with days ultimatum. Its completion was attained in less than fortnight.

In addition, I was part of the lawmakers in Oyo State House of Assembly who facilitated Bill on Oyo State Security Network, known as Amotekun and Open Grazing Bill.

Q: Oyo State government has recently approved recruitment of Teachers under TESCOM, How about SUBEB?

A: Most definitely, I can assure the members of the public that the recruitment application process in SUBEB will soon commence. The reasons for short delay is not unconnected to the fact that the recurrence allocation from Federal government remains the same and Makinde-led government wouldn’t want to owe any workers their hard-earned salary. Nonetheless, I can assure our people that very soon the application process will be released.

Q: Thank you so much for your time, sir.

A: You’re most welcome. It’s my pleasure to be here today.
