ASUU: Workers stage NLC solidarity protest in Ondo, tell FG to meet lecturers’ demand

Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Ondo State chapter have joined their colleagues, across the federation, to stage a solidarity protest against the prolonged strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

MOUTHPIECE NGR recalls that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had ordered workers across the federation to embark on a two-day nationwide protest.

This was in respect of the ongoing industrial strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The workers who turned out in large numbers include members of ASUU and other trade unions.

They have converged at the Cenotaph, Alagbaka, Akure the State capital, 8:00 am on Tuesday where they moved to some popular locations within the metropolis.

The workers sang solidarity songs as they moved through the popular Oba Adesida Road.

They were holding placards and banners with the inscriptions, “Enough is Enough” “End ASUU Strike Now” among others.

While speaking to the protesters, NLC Chairman in the state, Sunday Adeleye, revealed that the lingering strike has paralyzed tertiary education in the country.

He persuaded the federal government to meet up with the demands of university lecturers to allow students return to their classrooms.

The chairman has reaffirmed NLC’s readiness to promote good government, saying it would save Nigerians’ future, particularly those of workers and students.
