LAUTECH: Angry union members talk tough, set to meet Makinde

Mouthpiece NGR reports that today’s congress of Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, comprises of SSANU, NASU, and NAAT ended in deadlock as the union members vowed not to pull out of its ongoing strike.

It was gathered that the members stood their ground with its leadership to continue with the strike, saying they are not moved by the government decision to withhold subvention.

Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde had during the weekend threatened to embark on “No Work, No Pay” policy if both the teaching and non teaching staff of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso failed to pull out of the ongoing national strike.

Makinde said said if the lecturers were sensitive, they should not have joined the industrial action.

“As of today, their subvention is being withhold. If they don’t go back to school, I won’t pay their subvention.”

“The students must know who to hold accountable. We expect 100 per cent cooperation but some want to play politics.

“We will only pay those who return to their duties. I don’t care whether it’s an election year. I will only do what is right till the last day of the tenure.”

The remarks, however, made the union to call for congress today while ASUU had also fixed its own congress to Tuesday.

Our correspondent who monitored the congress at 750LTH reported that the unions threatened to continue with its strike if their demands are not addressed.

When contacted, a member of the union who craved for anonymity disclosed that Governor Seyi has called to meet with all unions.

He said the unions were informed of the development by the school management during the congress, stressing that the date would be communicated this evening to all the unions.

More to come…..
