I don’t want to curse any of you – Osun traditional ruler warns politicians against violence

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran has sent message of advice to politicians of Ijesa extraction to do away with bitterness and work together as one to consolidate on the development being recorded in the country.

Oba Aromolaran made this revelation in a peace meeting with leaders and stakeholders of political parties in Ilesa on Friday.

Sources in the palace revealed that the meeting was necessitated by the misunderstanding and trouble which characterised the distribution of Permanent Voter’s Cards by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ilesa West local government area on Thursday.

MOUTHPIECE NGR had earlier reported that some hoodlums interrupted the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) by people in Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State, Thursday.

Three persons reportedly sustained injuries as a result of the misunderstanding and fracas on Thursday, but the security agencies and the electoral commission quickly waded in, to restore normalcy in the affected area.

The monarch who expressed anger and disappointment at the manner supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) comported themselves, said they should always make sure they maintain the peace in Ijesa land so as not to face the wrath and anger of the ancient deities of the land.

The traditional ruler said, “I don’t want to curse anyone as requested by one of you. I will rather pray for you than do otherwise. This is because, if I do otherwise, the principalities and powers within the radius of this palace who are always interested in warfare will act.

The PDP leaders who were at the meeting blamed the ruling APC for the rancour that happened on Thursday .

They leveled allegations against the APC for deliberately tearing campaign posters of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Ademola Adeleke.

APC leaders while reacting, said PDP supporters were the major cause of the trouble, as their members allegedly shot at the convoy of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola along Ikoyi axis of the local government area.

The meeting resolved that the riot against the peaceful nature of the ancient town be discouraged and stopped.

It also resolved that anyone caught in an attempt to destabilize the peaceful conduct of the election in the town should be made to face the law.

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, while making contributions said all political actors should do away with violence and not allow politics to disintegrate the town.
