‘Boko Haram is in South West’, Islamic group says as it seeks protection for churches, mosques

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has revealed that Boko Haram is in the South West.

The group has said that the attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, and the killing of its innocent worshippers on Sunday, were carried out by Boko Haram members.

While alerting people to be watchful, the group recounted that this was how it started in the North.

The Islamic group has strongly condemned the massive’ attack, and called on the government to perform its responsibility, by arresting the attackers.

Recall that some unidentified gunmen had stormed a church in Owo, Ondo state and massacred dozens of worshippers during Sunday service.

The statement by the Islamic group was signed by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

“We strongly condemn this act of unprovoked aggression. It is inhuman, heinous, horrific and horrendous.

“We call for immediate arrest and prosecution of the attackers.”

The group has also called on the number one police officer, Inspector General of Police, IGP Usban Alkali Baba and the Police Command in the affected state to fish out the masterminders of the evil act without delay.

“This latest attack is indubitable evidence of the existence of Boko Haram in the South West after their penetration into Niger and Kogi States,” the group said.

“Going by Boko Haram modus operandi, we warn that mosques and more churches may be the next targets because this was how they started in the North. We, therefore, ask for protection for all churches and mosques in the region,” it said.

MURIC has condoled with all the bereaved and wished the wounded who are receiving treatment in hospitals, quick recovery.

The Islamic group has registered its solidarity with the State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu “in this hour of deep sadness”.
