Atiku reacts as Tinubu clinches APC presidential ticket

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has congratulated the former Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for winning the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that Tinubu garnered 1,271 votes to beat 13 other presidential aspirants, on Wednesday, at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The former Governor of Rivers State and leading contender, Rotimi Amaechi polled 316 votes, while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo gathered 235 votes. 

The former vice-president (Atiku) via a statement on Wednesday, described the presidential primary that made Tinubu the APC presidential candidate as a “hard-fought contest.”

“Congratulations, Bola Tinubu on your emergence as your party’s presidential candidate,” he wrote on Twitter.

“It has been a hard-fought contest, but that you prevailed confirms your tenacity.”

On May 28, Atiku secured the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 371 votes, defeating his closest contender and the Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, who got 237 votes.

Tinubu, while congratulating Atiku, after the PDP primary described him as a “worthy opponent”.
