LAUTECH Agric-Sciences holds 3rd lecture, receives over N40m donation

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH, Ogbomoso on 3rd November held its 3rd Faculty Lecture series with many scholars and students in attendance. 

The theme of the lecture “Self-Reliance and its importance. Focus on agricultural commodities – Starlink Global and Ideal Limited as a Case Study” took place at the Great Hall, university premises under the watch of Prof. A.A. Akingbade, the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Science who was the host at the event.

In his welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. A. A. Akingbade expressed delight over the presence of all dignitaries at the occasion and appreciate Professor Adewale Emiola for inviting his friends and long-time associates that have make their mark in agricultural commodities trading as the guest speaker.

According to him, he considered the lecture as a timely one going by the scarcity of white-collar jobs, which has resulted in alarming rate of unemployment, adding that the lecture will avail students the practical skills required to be employers of labour upon graduation from the University.

In his words, Managing Director, Starlink Global and Ideal Limited, Alhaji (Dr) Adeyemi Murthada Adeniji who also doubles as the guest speaker at the event emphasized the importance of agricultural commodities in our national economy and the need for every individual to play their role for its sustainability. 

He reiterated that success in business require honesty, integrity and relationship. He further advised the youths to harness a plethora of opportunities avail them with the advent of the internet in identifying problems and be ready to solve them.

 “As students, the only way to become self-reliance is identification of prevailing problems and finding ways to solving them.”

“While appreciating Professor Emiola for his persistence in the last 5 years to ensure that I deliver this lecture, he encouraged the students to be personates and consistent in whatever they are doing.”

Professor Emiola, a member of the University Governing Council in his remark thank his long-time friend and associate for creating time despite his busy schedule to deliver lecture. 

One of the highlight of the event was the investiture of the guest lecturer as the Patron of National Association of Agricultural Students, LAUTECH Chapter. 

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Adeyemi thanked the student body for the honour and promised to identify with the association as part of his social responsibility. He then announced start-up grant of 25 million naira for innovation and entrepreneurship among students in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences with the sole aim of identifying hundreds of stars that will be major players in commodity trading. 

Adeyemi made a personal donation of five million naira for the purchase of teaching aides and research equipment for the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

In addition, a grant of Ten million naira grant in agricultural research with Professor Emiola as the Principal Investigator.    

In his closing remark, the Ag. Vice Chancellor Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu thank the guest lecturer for sharing his wealth of experience with the students and the University community at large. 

Dignitaries present at the event include the University Librarian Dr (Mrs) Aboyade, representative of the registrar Mrs Gladys Ajala, Chairperson of Committee of Provost Professor Adeomowaye and deans of faculties and of student, heads of various departments in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Alhaji Hassan Omolaja Idowu (Director, Starlink Global and Ideal Limited), Alhaji Lateef (Koro) and Mr Collins produce merchants in Ogbomoso land.
