BREAKING: Two emerge as PDP National Acting Chairman

There was confusion on Tuesday as the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) split into two factions.

Deputy national chairman (north), Senator Sulieman Nazif declared himself the acting national chairman of the party.

Flanked by nine members of the National Working Committee (NWC), Nazif, who made the declaration at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, Tuesday, said his declaration is in accordance with the party’s constitution as amended.

Nazif’s declaration is coming less than three hours after the party Deputy National Chairman (South), Elder Yemi Akinwonmi, announced that he had taken charge of the party’s affairs and suspended the NWC meeting indefinitely.

Akinwonmi and Nazif are laying claim to the position of the National Chairman, to fill the leadership gap created by the suspension of the substantive National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

A court in Port Harcourt on Monday issued an order restraining Secondus from parading himself as PDP National Chairman, and also, from taking part in any activity of the party while the order lasts.
