Just In: Health minister resigns amid Coronavirus crises

Brazil Health Minister Nelson Teich on Friday handed in his resignation letter after less than a month on the job amid coronavirus crises.

Teich, who disagreed with right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro, will hold a news conference later Friday.

Mouthpiece NGR learnt the country now surpassed Germany and France and had more than 200,000 confirmed cases of the virus as of Thursday.

His resignation comes less than a month after Teich’s predecessor, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, was dismissed by Bolsonaro after the two sparred over the country’s coronavirus response.

Bolsonaro has downplayed the threat of the coronavirus as a “little flu”, arguing Brazil’s economy must continue to run normally.
