FLASHBACK: Osun 2018: My Critical Assesment- Oyedeji Ahmed

A great philosopher once said that, *” the world will not know peace until the power of love overcomes the love of power” *

Having carefully listened to the Osun gubernatorial election debate organized by BBC Yoruba at Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola hall in Osun state university, I’ve no doubt that Omisore seems to be the only candidate that can tackle and proffer lasting solution bedeviling LAUTECH.
The debate had in attendance all the front leading candidates eyeing the seat except Senator Ademola Adeleke. The reason of his absence might be best known to him but feelers from the public shows that senator Ademola adeleke is not the type to be engaged in public intellectual discourse.
During the course of debate, the APC candidate hinted that the possible solution to LAUTECH crises will be an outright increment on LAUTECH tuition fee. He specifically made reference to Osun state university who their newly intake or freshers paid nothing less than 200,000 Naira. This has shown that a vote for APC is tantamount to a vote for increment In school fees.
It would be recalled that virtually all tertiary institutions in Osun state except the federal owned are battling with one crisis or the other. It’s no gainsaying that the APC administration has no keen interest in education sector most especially the ivory towers. This could be further confirmed recently when the national leader of APC, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Ataoja Palace to unveil the candidate of his party, but dramatically said that he’s richer than the state. He further mentioned that the APC candidate is richer than Osun state.
To our chagrin, this dramatis personae is the incumbent chancellor of our Alma matter who couldn’t even meddle or lend a helping hand to a dying LAUTECH. History has it that the late Business mogul and philanthropist, Chief Kashimowo Moshood Abiola, who was the chancellor in *1991* gave LAUTECH a huge sum of 2 million Naira and 1 million Naira each to all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, one can imagine the value of such humongous amount as at that time.
Today, one of the things we enjoy from that money is the 750 lecture theatre, popularly called MKO, amongst other numerous project executed with the money. Permit me to make reference to the chancellor of our sister university, Osun state university, Chief Mrs folorunsho Alakija who donated a whooping sum of 250 million for the construction of roads linking Osun state university and equally donated ultra-modern pediatrics hospital for the return of medical school that was abolished by this current administration led by Ogbeni Rauf Aregebsola.
May I also inform you that the newly pronounced chancellor of Oyo state technical university, Chief Tunde Afolabi has donated an edifice along side other numerous projects for the newly established sister university in Oyo. This same person donated an ultra-modern hall that worth about 200 million Naira to our dear Alma matter. The hall is situated at the back of LAUTECH students union building. Will it be safe to conclude that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tunubu and his APC political Cronies doesn’t have LAUTECH love at heart ?
For every reasonable students, Alumni, staff and parent or anyone related to this institution should know that a Vote for APC is a vote for LAUTECH to perish. I therefore implore students of all state owned tertiary institutions in Osun state to think twice before they cast their vote on September 22nd.
It won’t be out of place if all students of tertiary institutions in Osun state could converge and have a common position on how to vote against this party whose ideology is not beneficial to the entire students populace.
This is the time for everyone to take the bull by its horns. The time is now to vote against tyranny, oppression, increment in school fees, no bursary allowance, ” I don’t care or a deafening chancellor who only go to palaces or political rallies to throw tantrums and boast of ill gotten wealth.
