Oyo Assembly Queries Local Government Chairmen, OYSROMA Over 150 Million For Road Rehabilitation

The Oyo House of Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction with the deplorable state of the roads, and also urged local authorities and the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) to ensure that the recent approval of the 150 million by the state government is effectively used for road repair and reconstruction in each local government.

Nigerian Tribune reports that it has been approved N75 million and the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) taking the other N75 million to carry out various repairs on roads across the state.
MouthpieceNG learned that Mr Bimbo Kolade, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, gave the details of the sum approved to local government areas.
Kolade while confirming the disbursement of the N150 million to Nigerian Tribune, said the road rehabilitation works is expected to be completed within three or four months.
Members of the Assembly have had several issues, especially those in rural areas, which have remained dilapidated.
The lawmakers expressed this concern at plenary while debating on a motion moved by Honourable Joshua Oyebamiji of Akinyele 1 constituency on the need for Chairmen of local government areas to fix degraded roads and clear drainages in their domain.
Reacting, Honorable Gbenga Oyekola of Atiba constituency expressed in relation to OYSROMA received to fix roads.
N150 million became expedient because N300 million had earlier been released to the two parties also for road rehabilitation and the job did not look commensurate with the released sum.
He hinted on the Assembly’s earlier invitation to the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Bimbo Kolade who gave details of the sum approved to local government areas.
Honorable Olusegun Olaleye representing Ibadan North II constituency, noted the need for the assembly to beam its searchlight on Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), which was also responsible for the fixing of roads.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Honorable Olagunju Ojo mandated the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, led by the Honorable Safiu Olalere to be more efficient in its oversight functions on local government activities.
This is the case of LG Chairmen and OYSROMA to utilize the funds as they grow up in their markets, he said.
