Two Killed In Suspected Cult Clash In Osogbo

Two persons were confirmed dead on Friday in Osogbo, Osun State, following a clash involving suspected members of rival cult groups.

The incident occurred at a lounge in Owoeba community, along the Osogbo/Ilesa Road, at about 5pm when the deceased were attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants.

A resident of Owoeba, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victims were drinking at the lounge when the attackers arrived.

“We heard gunshots and noise in the afternoon. The deceased was with some people drinking when the assailants arrived. They engaged in a fight before the two men were eventually subdued and killed. One of them was hit on the head. He died on the spot,” the resident said.

“One of the deceased is called ‘Small Rugged’. We later saw a police van that came to evacuate the bodies.”

Pictures obtained by our correspondent showed one of the victims lying lifeless in a pool of blood with an open wound on his head.

A police van conveying two corpses was also sighted along Station Road, Osogbo, on Friday evening.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the shooting was suspected to have been perpetrated by cult groups around the Oke Baale area.

“Two persons died at the spot. One of them is identified as ‘Small Rugged’. His other names are not yet known. Four other people sustained gunshot injuries and have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” Ojelabi said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has directed tactical teams to move to the area and apprehend those behind the attack.
