Two Nigerians Serving in US Air Force Jailed Over $2.3m Cyber Fraud
Two Nigerians serving in the United States Air Force have been sentenced to prison for their roles in an international cyber fraud scheme.
Chijioke Timothy Odimegwu was sentenced to 111 months in federal prison, while Harafat Mogaji bagged 78 months.
The duo targeted businesses and non-profits across the US, using stolen credit card information and phishing emails to redirect funds and payments into accounts controlled by their network.
According to investigators, the syndicate stole $1.68 million from a victim in Iowa and over $720,000 from another in Ohio.
Odimegwu was ordered to pay about $366,600 in restitution, while Mogaji was ordered to pay about $995,700.
The case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
